Čutková, Michaela ; Šteffl, Michal (advisor) ; Hráský, Pavel (referee)
Title: Relationship between hand grip strength and cognitive function in older adults over 65 years of age Goals: The main goal of this diploma thesis was to find out possible links between hand grip strength and cognitive functions in older adults over 65 years of age Method: As part of the master's thesis, a secondary analysis of data from the international cross- sectional study conducted within the Survey of Health Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) project was performed. The participants of the study were divided into seven categories based on their educational attainment, separately for both men and women. Generalized linear models were calculated for each of the mentioned categories as part of the data analysis. Results: The survey included a total of 38,519 participants with an average age of 74.00 ± 6.7 years from 18 countries worldwide. More than half of the participants were women. In the data analysis, it was found that the most represented educational group among the participants was the third group with higher secondary education, as defined by the ISCED 2011 classification. The tables indicate that values of all percentiles increase linearly with higher levels of education. This result suggests that higher education is associated with better performance in the examined test....
Level of physical activity in cognitively superior elderly women
Valtová, Nela ; Daďová, Klára (advisor) ; Křivánková, Markéta (referee)
Title: Level of physical activity in cognitively superior elderly women Objectives: The aim of the thesis is to describe the level of physical activity (PA) in cognitively superior senior women and compare it with the PA level of women of the same age. Another aim is to investigate the relationships between PA, anthropometric parameters and cognitive functions in this group of elderly women. Methods: A total of 90 women older than 80 years (mean age 83.4±3.3 years) who declared regular PA in middle age were included in the cross-sectional survey. The testing had the form of an interview with the collection of many anamnestic data, a questionnaire survey and measurement of the waist circumference. The method of determining the current level of PA was the IPAQ-E questionnaire. The MMSE, RAVLT, BNT-2, TMT and VF tests were used to assess cognitive functions. Results: Women over the age of 80 spend an average of 5.03 ± 2.3 h/day sitting, 181 ± 127.5 min/day walking, 167.4 ± 97.8 min/day moderate PA (on 5 days a week), 48 ± 84.4 minutes/day of high PA (on 1 day per week) and their average energy expenditure is 8560.2 MET minutes per week. Based on the evaluation of cognitive functions, it was shown that 33% of women with the status of cognitive SuperAging (SA) are in the research group. According to the...

Zbořilová, Darina ; Šteffl, Michal (advisor) ; Hráský, Pavel (referee)
Title: Association between alcohol use and semantic verbal fluency in older adults over 65 years of age Objectives: To determine the association between alcohol consumption and one of the memory components - semantic verbal fluency in older adults over 65 years. Methods: This diploma thesis was carried out as the secondary analysis of data from an international cross-sectional study, which was a part of the Survey of Health Aging and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) project. For the purposes of this thesis, the participants were divided into six categories according to their education levels, and sex. Generalized linear models were calculated for each of the categories separately. Results: A total of 41,224 participants average age 75.1 ± 7.4 years were included in the survey, out of them 22,737 were women and 18,487 were men. 83.0% of participants reported no consumption any alcohol during the last three months prior to testing. More frequent alcohol consumption was associated with lower performance in the semantic verbal fluency test in the several categories according to education (p<0.001). This relationship was primarily among participants with less education, the unstandardized regression coefficient B = -1.416 (p = 0.045) was estimated in women who consumed alcohol five or six days a week and...

Kňavová, Kristýna ; Felcmanová, Lenka (advisor) ; Šiška, Jan (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with the possibilities of supporting the activation of cognitive abilities in the elderly. The work is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part focuses on the definition of the aging process of an individual with an emphasis on changes in cognitive functions and the possibility of supporting their stimulation. In the practical part, the results of qualitative research are presented, in which data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews with workers and clients of four homes for the elderly and supported by deliberate observation of the activation of cognitive functions. The main goal is to gain an overview of the content and forms of activation activities with a focus on cognitive functions in the selected devices. The goal is also to obtain an overview of the frequency, differentiation and effectiveness of the above-mentioned activation activities in the selected facilities and to create a general recommendation for facility staff with the intention of improving or supplementing the portfolio of provided activities. Screening for impairment and design of a rehabilitation program for executive function in substance abusers from the perspective of an addictionologist
Votavová, Aneta ; Šťastná, Lenka (advisor) ; Miovský, Michal (referee)
Background: The entire research is based on the hypothesis that due to regular and long-term abuse of addictive psychotropic substances, the risk of damage to executive and cognitive functions in a given user increases. If a deficit develops, very often there is a decrease in the quality of life of the individual. The addictologist should be able to notice a deficit in his patients and, if confirmed, also intervene in the right way. Aim: The aim of the research is to create a proposal for two cognitive rehabilitation programs that could be implemented in clinical work with addictological patients. If an executive or cognitive deficit is detected in a patient, the selected programs should be able to provide high- quality and effective rehabilitation. In this way, each of the programs could bring a higher quality of life in selected patients. Another aim of the diploma thesis is to test the selected research set for damage to executive functions. The research set is divided into four groups. Each group is characterized by an abuse of a selected addictive substance or group of addictive substances. Methods: Each participant in the research set was tested through a test battery. The test battery was composed of several parts. These included frontal Assessment Battery, Pathway Test (version A, version...
Possibilities of cognitive functions in seniors
Dvořáková, Veronika ; Felcmanová, Lenka (advisor) ; Šumníková, Pavlína (referee)
The thesis deals with the possibilities of development of cognitive functions in the elderly. It focuses on the most frequently impaired cognitive functions in the elderly. The main objectives of the thesis were to find out how cognitive functions are stimulated in the elderly in residential services or in homes for the elderly, in field care services and also in seniors living independently who depend on the support of family members. Another aim was to develop a specific intervention programme that would have a positive impact on the development of cognitive functions in the elderly. The results, obtained from the analysis of the individual interviews, are compiled in three case studies, which are divided according to the services mentioned above. The results of this qualitative research indicate that in each of the forms of care studied, attempts are made to address the senior and their cognitive functions. In some cases, a targeted focus on memory only was found, while in others they focus on the all-round development of cognitive functions. However, they always work with the individual needs and health status of the senior. The interviews revealed that the staff members interviewed support the development of cognitive function through directly identified activities throughout the day. On the...

The third chapter is a key part, because the work deals with possible non-pharmecological approaches and activation of seniors. The empirical part describes the activation activities carried out by the Home for the elderly Háje, where the research was carried out. The empirical part focouses on the activition of intact clients and clients suffering from Parkinson's disease. Furthermore, examples from four activiation blocks, which were implemented with both intact clients and clients with Parkinson's disease, are presented and described in this section. Subsequently, an...
